Windows There are no special windows for log homes. You can use the same windows that are in conventionally framed homes. It is highly recommended to use vinyl or wood framed windows because metal framed windows will conduct the cold and moisture will build-up in the glide track developing mold. If you are building in high elevations 6,000 feet or higher you will have to make sure that your windows have a “breather tube” to get the efficiency out of your windows. Consulting firms that help you through the building process are well worth your time and money. Not knowing the in and out's of building a log home or timber frame home can become very frustrating.
